How to Publish Products to Shopify Sales Channels in Bulk and on a Schedule

BulkFlow | | 10/15/2026

To publish a product to Shopify sales channels, open the product in your admin, go to the Publishing section, click the adjust icon, select the channels you want and save. To publish many products at once, select them in your product list and use the Make products available bulk action.

Sales channels decide where shoppers can find and buy your products, from your online store and point of sale to social platforms and marketplaces. Knowing how publishing works helps you launch products in the right places and keep others hidden until they’re ready.

What Are Shopify Sales Channels?

Sales channels are the places where you sell your products, all managed from your Shopify admin. They include your Online Store, Point of Sale, Shopify channels such as Shop and Shopify Collective, and connected platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google and marketplaces.

You can add a channel from Settings > Sales channels by clicking Shopify App Store, searching for the channel and clicking Install. Some channels have eligibility requirements, and a channel your store can’t use yet shows as “Unavailable,” with a link explaining why.

When you add a channel, all of your existing products become available on it. To keep a product off that channel, remove the channel from the product’s publishing settings, as the next section explains.

Agentic storefronts, such as ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, work differently. They don’t need to be installed, they’re active by default for eligible stores and you manage them in the Agentic storefronts section of your sales channel settings.

How to Publish Products to Sales Channels in Shopify

You can publish products one at a time from the product page or several at once from the product list. In both cases, the product’s status also affects whether shoppers can see it.

Publish a single product

The product page is the best place to review exactly where one product is published. Follow these steps on desktop:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Products and click the product.
  2. In the Publishing section, click the adjust icon.
  3. Select the channels you want the product on, and deselect any you want to remove.
  4. Click Done, then click Save.

In the Shopify mobile app, open the product and find the Sales channels section. Tap Edit, change the selections and tap Save or the checkmark.

Publish products in bulk

Bulk actions save time when you launch a collection or add a new channel to many products. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Products and select the products with the checkboxes.
  2. Click More actions and choose Make products available.
  3. Select the sales channels you want and confirm.

To remove products from channels, choose Make products unavailable instead. On desktop, you can select every product with Select all 50+ items, or filter the list first and use Select all results, while the mobile app lets you select up to 25 products at a time.

Check the product status

Publishing a product to a channel isn’t enough on its own, because the product’s status also controls visibility. This table shows how each status works:

Status What it means
Active The product can be sold on the channels it’s published to
Draft The product isn’t ready to sell and doesn’t appear on your channels
Unlisted The product is hidden from browsing but stays accessible by direct URL
Archived The product is moved to the Archived tab and removed from your online store

An archived product returns as a draft when you unarchive it, so set it back to Active before expecting it to appear. Also note that duplicating an active product publishes the copy to the same channels as the original.

Schedule Publishing to a Sales Channel

You can set a future date and time for a product to appear on your online store and some other channels. This is useful for product drops, seasonal launches and preparing products ahead of a sale.

  1. Open the product and confirm its status is Active.
  2. In the Publishing section, click the calendar icon next to Online Store and choose a date and time.
  3. Optionally, click the calendar icon next to another sales channel and set its date and time.
  4. Click Schedule publishing, then click Save.

The product must stay Active, because a product still in draft at the scheduled time won’t publish anywhere. To change a schedule, click the pencil icon, and to cancel it, click the trash icon and save.

Scheduling isn’t available for the Shop app, and individual variants can’t have their own scheduled date. Check your store’s time zone under Settings > General so products go live when you expect.

Control Which Variants Appear on Each Channel

Since May 2026, Shopify lets you publish or unpublish individual variants by sales channel or catalog. This helps when a size, color or bundle option should only appear on certain channels, such as a bulk-quantity variant for B2B buyers.

  1. Open the product and go to the Variants section.
  2. For one variant, click the icons in its Publishing column, or select several variants, click the menu icon and choose Manage publishing.
  3. Deselect the sales channels or catalogs you want to hide the variants from.
  4. Click Done, then click Save.

A variant can only appear on a channel where its parent product is published. If you unpublish every variant from a channel, the whole product is hidden there until you republish at least one, and the product page shows “Excludes some variants” when some are hidden.

Sales Channels and Markets

If you sell internationally, channel publishing works together with Shopify Markets. When you use channel markets, a product must be in a catalog assigned to that market and published to the sales channel before customers there can buy it.

The Shop channel has one exception worth knowing. If you exclude a product from Shop, it may still appear there, but customers are sent to your online store to complete the purchase.

Publish to Channels With CSV, Apps or the API

The admin covers most publishing tasks, but large catalogs and connected systems often need other tools. Each option has its own limits.

  • Product CSV. The Published on online store column controls Online Store visibility with TRUE or FALSE, and the Status column sets active, draft or archived. CSV files can’t update availability on other sales channels.
  • Import apps. Spreadsheet apps vary in which channels they support, and some can only publish to the Online Store and Point of Sale, so check before relying on one for other channels.
  • PIM and catalog tools. Product information systems such as Akeneo can assign products to sales channels, B2B catalogs and market catalogs during sync, sometimes per product or per variant.
  • Admin API. Developers can publish products to specific publications with the publishablePublish mutation, which suits custom integrations and automated launches.

Some tools add channels but never remove them. Akeneo’s app, for example, doesn’t unpublish products, so you’d remove channels in Shopify directly.

Remove or Uninstall a Sales Channel

If you stop selling on a channel, uninstall it rather than leaving it connected. Go to Settings > Sales channels, open the menu next to the channel and click Uninstall, then confirm that you understand the risks and click Uninstall again.

If a third-party channel becomes unsupported, contact its developer to request an update. If you can’t reach the developer, uninstall the channel, since Shopify can’t update third-party channels for you.

Common Problems With Shopify Sales Channels

Most publishing issues come from status, scheduling or market settings rather than the channel itself. Watch for these:

  • A product isn’t showing on a channel. It’s in draft, isn’t published to that channel or isn’t in the right market catalog.
  • A scheduled product didn’t go live. It was still in draft at the scheduled time, or the store’s time zone was different from yours.
  • A new channel shows products you didn’t want there. Adding a channel makes every existing product available, so remove the ones that don’t belong.
  • A CSV import didn’t change channel availability. CSV files only control the Online Store.
  • A channel shows as “Unavailable.” Your store doesn’t yet meet that channel’s requirements.
  • Some variants are missing on a channel. They’re unpublished from that channel through variant publishing.

Conclusion

Managing Shopify publish channels gives you control over where each product appears and when it goes live. Whether you publish one product, update many in bulk or schedule a launch, checking status, markets and variant settings keeps every channel showing the right products. We hope this guide helps you manage Shopify publish channels with confidence.
