How to Schedule Shopify Price Changes with Discounts, Flow, Apps, or CSV

BulkFlow | | 10/15/2026

Shopify doesn’t have a schedule button for product prices, but you can still plan price changes ahead of time. You can schedule a sale with an automatic discount, set up a scheduled workflow in Shopify Flow, use Launchpad on Shopify Plus, install a price scheduler app or prepare CSV files to import on the day.

The best option depends on whether you want a temporary discount or a real change to your product prices, and on your plan. Choosing the right one lets a sale start and end on time without anyone editing prices at midnight.

Can You Schedule a Price Change in Shopify?

You can’t set a future date on a product’s price field in the Shopify admin, because price edits apply as soon as you save. You can still get a scheduled result through discounts, automation or apps. This table compares the options:

Method What changes Plan Best for
Automatic discount with active dates The price customers pay in the cart and at checkout All plans Simple sales with a fixed start and end
Shopify Flow with a scheduled time trigger Product variant prices, through an Admin API request Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus Real price changes without a paid app
Launchpad Product prices during a scheduled event, reverted at the end Shopify Plus only Flash sales and product launches
Price scheduler app Product prices, and often compare-at prices Depends on the app Frequent or recurring price changes
Prepared CSV import Product prices when you run the import All plans Large updates you can trigger manually

A discount leaves your product prices unchanged and reduces what customers pay at checkout. The other methods change the prices themselves, which affects product pages, feeds and reports until the price is changed back.

Schedule a Sale With an Automatic Discount

An automatic discount is the simplest native way to schedule a lower price. You set when it starts and ends, and Shopify applies it in the cart and at checkout for eligible items without a code.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts and click Create discount.
  2. Choose Amount off products, then select Automatic discount as the method.
  3. Enter a title, set the percentage or fixed amount and choose the products or collections it applies to.
  4. In Active dates, set the start date and time.
  5. Select Set end date and enter when the sale should stop.
  6. Click Save.

Discount dates follow your store’s time zone, so check it under Settings > General before planning a midnight launch. You can have up to 25 active automatic discounts, and app-based discounts count toward that limit.

Because the discount applies in the cart, your product pages may still show the regular price unless your theme or an app displays the discount. If you want shoppers to see a crossed-out price on product pages, use a method that changes the price and compare-at price instead.

Schedule Price Changes With Shopify Flow

Shopify Flow can change real product prices at a set time. It’s a free app on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, and it combines a Scheduled time trigger with the Send Admin API request action.

  1. Create a workflow. Open Shopify Flow and create a new workflow.
  2. Add the Scheduled time trigger. Set the start date and time, and optionally a time zone, which defaults to your store’s time zone.
  3. Get the products. Add a Get product data action with a query, such as a tag you’ve added to the sale items.
  4. Update the prices. Add a Send Admin API request action with a variant update mutation, such as productVariantsBulkUpdate, and set the new price and compare-at price in the mutation inputs.
  5. Test and turn it on. Run the workflow on a test product first, then activate it.

Create a second workflow scheduled for the end of the sale to restore the original prices. One way to do this is to store the regular price in a product or variant metafield before the sale, then copy it back when the second workflow runs.

The scheduled time trigger can run once or repeat, with intervals from 10 minutes to one year. The Admin API request action requires valid IDs and JSON inputs, so this method suits stores comfortable with basic Liquid or API work.

Schedule Price Changes With Launchpad on Shopify Plus

Launchpad is a Shopify app for Plus stores that schedules sales events. It can change product prices when an event starts and restore them when it ends, along with publishing products, theme changes and scripts.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Launchpad and click Create event.
  2. Enter a title and set the start date and time.
  3. Select Apply discounts to your products and collections, then add products or collections, or use Bulk discounts.
  4. Select Set end date and enter when the event should end.
  5. Click Save.

If you don’t set an end date, the event runs until you end it manually. Prices revert to their pre-event values when the event ends, and any price you edit during the event is temporary.

Launchpad has a few rules worth knowing before a big sale. These are the main ones:

  • No overlapping events. A new event must start at least five minutes after the previous one ends.
  • Collection size. Collections added to an event shouldn’t exceed 1,000 products.
  • Compare-at prices. During an event, compare-at prices are replaced with the regular pre-sale prices, and both revert afterward.
  • Discount codes. Codes still work during events and apply to the sale price.
  • B2B catalogs. Launchpad discounts stack with B2B catalog pricing.

Use a Price Scheduler App

Price scheduler apps are often the quickest route when you change prices regularly or don’t have Shopify Plus. Apps such as PriceOps: Bulk Price Scheduler and Kronos Price Scheduler are listed in the Shopify App Store, and workflow tools such as MESA offer scheduling templates.

MESA’s template, for example, pairs a one-time Schedule trigger with an Update Product Variant action that sets a new price. It has no built-in revert, so you create a second workflow to restore the original price, and each update step handles one variant.

Features vary widely between apps, so compare them against how you run sales. Before choosing one, check these details:

  • Automatic revert. Whether prices return to their original values when the sale ends.
  • Compare-at prices. Whether the app sets and clears them so the sale shows as a crossed-out price.
  • Bulk selection. Whether you can target collections, tags or vendors instead of single variants.
  • Overlapping schedules. How the app handles two scheduled changes for the same product.
  • Market prices. Whether it updates fixed prices in your Markets catalogs.

Prepare Price Changes in Advance With CSV

If you don’t need full automation, you can prepare the price change ahead of time and import it when the sale starts. This works on every plan and handles many products at once.

  1. Export your products. Go to Products > Export and export the products in the sale.
  2. Keep a backup. Save an untouched copy, which also serves as your file for restoring prices.
  3. Create the sale file. Update Variant Price with the sale price and set Variant Compare At Price to the original price.
  4. Import at the start. Go to Products > Import, select Overwrite products with matching handles and upload the sale file.
  5. Restore at the end. Import the backup file the same way to bring back the original prices.

Keep the Handle and option columns in both files so each price lands on the right variant. Product CSV files can’t exceed 15 MB, and blank cells in included columns can clear existing values, so test the file on a few products first.

If you manage product data across Shopify, WooCommerce or Wix, Bulkflow supports bulk import, export and updates to existing product records with field mapping. That can help when you prepare price files ahead of a sale and need to update many records at once.

Tips for Scheduled Price Changes

Scheduled prices fail most often because of time zones, overlapping tools or prices set elsewhere. Keep these points in mind:

  • Check your time zone. Discounts and Flow schedules use your store’s time zone unless you set another one.
  • Use compare-at prices for markdowns. Set the compare-at price to the original price and the price to the sale price, then clear the compare-at price when the sale ends.
  • Remember fixed market prices. Fixed prices in Markets catalogs override changes to your base price, so update them separately.
  • Use one tool per product. Two apps or workflows changing the same product can overwrite each other.
  • Plan the revert first. Set up the end-of-sale change at the same time as the start.
  • Test before launch. Schedule a change on a test product a few minutes ahead and confirm it applies and reverts.

Common Problems With Scheduled Price Changes

Most issues come from settings that work differently than expected. Watch for these:

  • The sale started at the wrong time. The store’s time zone differs from the one you planned in.
  • Product pages show the full price. An automatic discount only applies in the cart and at checkout.
  • Prices didn’t return after the sale. The method had no revert step, so restore them with a second workflow or import.
  • International prices didn’t change. Those markets use fixed catalog prices.
  • A Launchpad event won’t save. It overlaps another event or starts less than five minutes after one ends.
  • A Flow workflow failed. The mutation inputs contained invalid IDs or JSON.
