Import, Export & Update Customer Metafields

Export Inventory Quantity by Location

Customer metafields store the data Shopify doesn’t have a built-in field for — birthdays, loyalty tiers, B2B account codes, preferences. Adding or editing them one customer at a time in Shopify admin isn’t realistic once you have more than a few hundred customers.

BulkFlow now supports full Customer Metafields management in bulk:

  • Import — add metafield values to customers from a spreadsheet. If a metafield definition doesn’t exist in Shopify yet, BulkFlow creates it for you.
  • Export — pull existing metafield values out for review, backup, or editing. Columns appear as Metafield: namespace.key — for example, Metafield: custom.birthday.
  • Update — change metafield values across many customers at once.

Supported types are text, number, date, and boolean.

During feed configuration you choose the match key — Customer ID or Email. We recommend Email, since it’s unique per customer in Shopify.

One thing worth knowing: BulkFlow only adds and updates metafield values, it never deletes them. If a metafield column is left blank in your file, the existing value on that customer stays as it is rather than being cleared. This means you can update a single metafield across your customer base without worrying about the rest of the columns.

Useful for syncing loyalty data, enriching customer profiles from an external system, or migrating custom customer data between stores.
